What types of construction project delivery methods does Western Pump offer?

Western Pump offers a range of construction project delivery methods designed to meet the specific needs of our customers.

DESIGN/BUILD

  • Summary of Services
    • We manage the entire project from inception, through design, to construction completion. The architect is contracted directly to Western Pump and we maintain total accountability throughout the entire process.
  • Owner/Operator Role
    • This method traditionally minimizes owner involvement in the design and construction process.
  • When to Consider This Delivery Method
    • This method is most suitable for owners who prefer the convenience of a turn-key process.

INTEGRATED CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

  • Summary of Services
    • We assist you with selecting an architect. This method differs from Design/Build in that the architect is contracted to the owner. As with Design/Build, however, Western Pump manages the entire project from inception, through design, to construction completion.
  • Owner/Operator Role
    • The owner is directly involved in the architect selection, project design, and construction process.
  • When to Consider This Delivery Method
    • This method is generally preferable over Design/Build when insurability and liability protection are significant concerns for both the owner and contractor.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

  • Summary of Services
    • We manage all estimating, bidding, contracting, and constructing necessary to complete the project per the plans and specifications supplied by the owner.
  • Owner/Operator Role
    • The owner is directly involved in the design and construction process and supplies construction plans and specifications.
  • When to Consider This Delivery Method
    • This method can provide owners with the best value while creating the most collaborative team structure.
  • Fee Structure Options
  • Total construction cost plus a percent to total cost fee, without a maximum not to exceed cap. This is preferable if the plans and specifications supplied by the owner are not entirely complete or are in a state of flux.
  • Total construction cost plus a percent to total cost fee, with a maximum not to exceed cap. This method should only be considered when the plans and specifications supplied by the owner are entirely complete with a very low chance of change.

BID/BUILD

  • Summary of Services
    • The owner contracts with separate entities for the design and construction process.
  • Owner/Operator Role
    • The owner is heavily involved in all aspects of the project, including coordinating the work of multiple contractors.
  • When to Consider This Delivery Method
    • This method is the least popular of our four options, as it generally constitutes a greater financial risk for the owner and is not ideal for creating a collaborative team structure.

How do fuel systems accumulate contaminants over time?

All fuel tank systems are vented to allow for filling and dispensing. Venting enables oxygen, water, dirt, and other contaminants to enter the fuel system. Diesel fuel is particularly prone to contamination due to its high viscosity.

Why is dirty fuel bad for business?

Contaminated fuel hurts engine performance, reduces fuel efficiency, and damages vital engine parts. This results in lower vehicle productivity, higher maintenance costs, and shorter engine life. Improper maintenance of your fuel and fuel system can also void engine warranties leading to unnecessary repair expenses.

Does Western Pump offer a fuel quality maintenance service?

Western Pump is a full-service contractor for the petroleum and automotive equipment industries. We offer a one-stop solution for specialty construction, equipment sales, installation, and service. One of the most important services we offer to our customers is a comprehensive fuel quality maintenance service. This service includes fuel sampling and testing, fuel and tank cleaning, preventative maintenance, and ongoing documentation.

What is included in Western Pump’s fuel quality maintenance program?

Western Pump’s comprehensive fuel quality maintenance program includes the following:

  • Fuel Sampling and Testing – The first and most important step in the fuel quality maintenance service is sampling and testing your fuel supply. This allows us to determine whether fuel and tank cleaning are necessary and to develop a custom system cleaning plan tailored to your situation and business requirements. Sampling and testing also allow us to establish a benchmark against which we, and you, can measure our success.
  • Tank Cleaning – Our fuel cleaning process begins with your tank. We remove accumulated waste byproducts that have collected at the bottom of your storage tank, ensuring that once the fuel is cleaned, it stays that way as long as possible.
  • Fuel Polishing/Filtering – Once the storage tank is free of accumulated waste, we run the fuel through a purification system matched to your needs. Our process of advanced filtration removes particulate contamination and moisture accumulation.
  • Fuel Treatment – After the tank has been cleaned and the fuel polished, we treat the fuel with proprietary additive blends designed to maximize the amount of time your fuel system remains clean, while improving the performance of the engines that are fueled by the system.
  • Ongoing Sampling, Testing, and Documentation – We know that your organization cannot afford equipment failures and vehicle downtime. Proactive monitoring and maintenance of your fuel and fuel system is an important way to keep your engines running and minimize repair costs. Western Pump offers routine follow-up sampling and testing to ensure your fuel and fuel system are always in tip-top condition. We also provide documentation of the forensic data from the testing to keep your company compliant with all your engine warranty requirements.
What type of fuels does Western Pump work with?

Our process is effective for all types of engine and equipment fuels, including diesel, gasoline, E10, heating, oil, and biodiesel.

FAQ’s About Fuel Polishing and Tank Cleaning

How often should we sample and test our fuel?

Depending on the type of fuel, tank system, and fuel usage, sampling is recommended at least every twelve months and, in some situations, up to every six months. We can work with you to develop a preventative maintenance strategy that will ensure that the quality of fuel being dispensed is clean when entering the equipment.

How often should the fuel be polished, and the tanks cleaned?

Fuel sampling and testing will determine when fuel polishing and tank cleaning are needed. It is recommended to have your fuel polished at least once per year. Consistently cleaning the fuel will not only keep your engines running well, but will also help reduce the buildup of contaminants in the fuel tank, reducing the need for tank cleaning service.

If I have a built-in fuel polishing/filtration system, do I still need a comprehensive fuel quality management service?

Fuel polishing/filtration systems are a great way to manage the fuel supply in your tanks, but it is only one part of a comprehensive fuel quality management program. These systems will not clean the tank and they do not treat the fuel, which can be an effective way to slow the buildup of contaminants in your fuel system.

What are the proprietary additives that are used to treat the fuel after it is polished?

Blue42 is our proprietary fuel additive. Blue42 uses enzymes, nature’s most powerful catalysts, to redefine the molecular structure of gasoline and diesel. Its all-natural enzymes purify fuel and improve oxygenation during combustion. With cleaner fuel, fuel filter costs are reduced. By improving combustion, abrasive soot and corrosive exhaust gases are reduced, decreasing engine wear by protecting lube oil integrity.

If I use fuel tank cleaners and additives like Blue42, do I still need to clean my tanks?

Yes, you do. Some additives will enhance the cleaning process by dropping out particulates, free water, and microbes to the bottom of the tank, making cleaning more efficient. But these additives will not remove contaminants from the fuel or the tank.

Are your lift technicians ALI certified?

Yes, all of our lift technicians are ALI certified. We hire, train, and retain the best technicians in Southern California. We also invest in their ongoing training and development by providing ongoing factory and manufacturer training.

How often should lifts be inspected by certified technicians?

Lifts should be inspected at least once per year. Some lift manufacturers recommend more frequent inspections depending on the type of lift, frequency of use, and operating environment. OSHA requires automotive lift certification for all vehicle lifts/hoists on an annual basis.

What does a typical lift inspection entail?

Here is a list of some of the typical checks done during a lift inspection:

  • Examine accessible structural components, including welds, for any evidence of overloading, misuse, or abuse.
